About Me

Jennifer E. Brown
Boston, MA, United States
Geschichte: I started working with national indie music acts and booking shows/interviews during my sophomore year of high school. I then traveled to Germany and explored the techno/HAUS scene and my love for all-things German. After that I made some music friends at Penn State University and now I'm "home" at Boston University, embarking on new and fresh musical endeavors. I try not to get involved in anything [musically] unless I believe in it 100%. Koooala!

Shoot

I keep in touch
Through electronic impulses
You should stop playing your stereo
So loud because your music sucks

Wrap the body you have, scarred
around all of me, scarred
and I will choose to let go
Of all this shit I've kept clothed

I don't remember, don't you know?
Bring it up and let's go home

We take the back way back and share space
Someone else's car, someone else's place

I'd kiss you longer if I could hold on to your face

Colored black

Trekking to East Boston
and back
Watching movies, Star Trek
Did I pay for all of that?
I remember not caring,
Leaving here and going there
But I don't remember if it was cold
If it was the summer yet
Or how often we did it
I just remember the commute
The international mix of smells

Now I commute backwards
To a colder, smaller place
Without pets
With people, with names
Shorter skirts
I wake up and there's your face

For so long
I slept next to you and didn't care about you at all
We'd wake, eat breakfast, together but alone
Try to use empty time, play with phone
You'd leave, touch bodies, come back
I'd try to be normal

Now this, backwards
Working backwards to try to know you right
No dogs around, no music
No entertainment
So we entertain ourselves with fights
About how things c/sh/ould be better

When I had it better out East this whole time
Took the apartment, the time, the bed
For granted
Now we're here with uncontrollable
Nouns pushing against us

Find a cave that's ready to test us

o

Shooting insults in a land of candy, I don't have time
To clean my room when you're around

Playing music in old houses of the dirty youth
You'll forget me when you're down

We hold on to each other because of Mexico
The country telling me to tell you
I won't let you go

But everything is pulling us apart
But I still stick to you

At The Pool/His li(f)e

Tiled floor of blue against white
Spreading disease and rumors
About a team, or a man

Yell at us, make your face change
While we dream about going to work with you
Because you are never home
I get choked up when I choked on that one.

A group of toned, masculine men
Sit down together on aluminum levels
Ten years later, photos taken
Babies in the background

Driving to dinner
You forget you'd been there
You’re a visitor in my hometown
Work pushed you away but kept you around.
Coach the color Brown.

You won’t be back here again, so I’ll take photos while I can.

Going to State College

An ocean you could never swim across
You can’t swim
Your love could never last that long
You’re a figure in an open venue, open legs, facing in

Hang up on you, take the third train I see
To the aeroporto, East Boston, now shipyard free
Your old home

Beeping system sublines
Music on full
Blast ears empty
Right to the Rails
I’m in

Cursing the brick I see across
The subway stops, lines all lost
Summer skin sheds

Entering a transition
Not entering
You were so passive when I left for Italy

Now you’re there
Drink red wine
Impress dark-haired people
You know less than I
See what you’ve done to me?

You’re in.

This Past Weekend

I went to Vermont.
It was awesome.
I hung out with dogs, drank lots of alcohol, ate good food, went to a Brewery, met nice people, watched a funny movie, snuggled a bear, became a pro at Wii bowling...

and now I'm back in Boston and it's 11 P.M. and I haven't finished my to-do list andddd, and, and.

Thank you, Vermont.

New Stuff

Okkayy, so if you're wondering why I haven't been posting as much, it's because my writing is being filtered to other places. I'm really excited about some of the new projects I'm working on this fall and I'll be sure to keep you updated! There are a few awesome shows that I'm booking and am looking forward to... you will be invited.

But for now, check out:
http://onafriday.com
and
http://buquad.com/

and my writing will be in November's issue of Hear/Say magazine.

Meanwhile, I haven't been writing as much poetry, which kind of makes me sad... my brain's been busy and guarded by a to-do list. I keep pushing myself to do more and more because it's my last year at good ole' BU.

I'm going home for a weekend on Oct 22. I haven't been home since Christmas, so I'm happy to be getting back there... my dad's getting honored for his BIG TEN Men's swimming win, which was ten years ago... cool! I'll be missing CMJ fest, but it's worth it.

And umm... October is my favorite month.
So, I'm in good spirits.

Til soon/hope you're well,

Jen

Eric Johnson From FRUIT BATS and THE SHINS Gives Me A Few Minutes While On His Way To An In-store...

The Sub Pop band The Fruit Bats toured through town last week. I was able to catch a few words with them before they left Boston and then did a quick phoner with the lead member Eric Johnson while he was on his way to a Chicago in-store yesterday in Wicker Park. The Fruit bats have been number one on the CMJ charts with their new well-received album, The Ruminant Band.
